I am a Kenyan artist, residing in London, UK and Kenya. I gained my Fine Art degree at Loughborough University, UK, in 2023, specialising in ceramics and sculpture. My passion for making started when I was in school and since then I have centered my practice around ceramics and three-dimensional art. My early works showcase a series of realistic sculptures featuring the disposable everyday, grounding them in reality and the permanent form of ceramic. I have recently completed a residency at Jingdezhen Ceramic University (China) which inspired my practice through the appreciation of tradition and material.
My current art practice focuses on the traditional forms of ceramics, integrated with the primal forms of sea life and the natural world. Concentrating on light and the relationship between ceramics and the organic and taking inspiration from nature, my work embraces spontaneous textures and colours. I explore the interface between water and light in my work, focussing on fine work and glaze. The juxtaposition of sea life with clean lines of ceramics highlights the tensions of the primal and the modern. By focusing on our shared environment, I connect my audience directly to my work.
